Habits That Make You a Better Student
Everyone wants to be a better learner right?
Ever since we are a kid that’s the only important thing our parents and teachers and caretakers demand from us.
To be a good student and a learner, you need more than a good study routine and discipline. You need habits. Habits are rooted into your core personality and developing such habits are very important to be a good student in the long term.
Especially in a pandemic like this, where uncertainties are everywhere and routines are broken with so many changes in the dynamics of how the world works, having habits can really go a long way. Don’t you think?
So here are a few habits that make you a better student/learner:
Knowing Which Time Works For You
There’s a lot of advice that goes around stating that one should wake up early and get started with their study routine but that’s not very true.
Different people work in different ways and it’s important that you experiment and analyze which time works the best for you.
For some people like me, my brain is the most active in the mornings and my productivity is way higher before 12 in the noon. Also my productivity goes up in the evening as well.
So what time works the best for you? Make sure you follow that! And with these lockdowns going around, you have the freedom to study whenever you want. I have known people who work the best at midnight!
So be self aware!
Knowing What Drives You
This is way more important than anything else on this list. This is the engine to your life which pushes you forward no matter what kind of path you are up against.
What drives you to do the things that you do? Let’s say your goal is to study abroad in a field of your interest. You need to know what drives you to that goal? Introspection can be really valuable to understand yourself better and when you are self aware, you can tackle a lot of obstacles that usually stop people. To conquer TOEFL reading mistakes, ditch passive absorption and actively predict, annotate, and question the text like a detective for sharper comprehension.
More often “Good scores” mean “sense of importance from colleagues” or “impressing your parents”. Good job often means “ Sense of security” or “sense of significance”
So find these internal things that matter and prioritize them before its too late!
Getting Enough Sleep
This is one of the most important things that you must have heard time and time again and yet most of us take this for granted. Our body is a very complex thing that requires alot of things to be in a balance for it to work properly.
So even though you do not feel the consequences of taking your body for granted immediately, trust me, the more you exploit your body, the more problems you will face in the very near future.
So get your 8 hours in. Don’t be inspired by some TV series actors who apparently work all day and barely get any sleep. They are not cool. Staying up all night is not cool. While the impact of fashion on student habits can boost confidence and self-expression, navigating trends responsibly can cultivate focus and discipline. It destroys the hormones balance in your body and slowly affects your memory and mental capacity
Staying Away From Technology
As useful as technology is in today’s world, it is also an amazing distraction and actually a life changer if you let it!
Wonders are done using the internet and the same internet is destroying lives as well. So if you are addicted to your mobile phone or social media, try a social media detox and use that excess time to focus on studying and finishing your tasks.
Let’s say you are preparing for the IELTSor SATexams. Now you might have to take practice tests online which is technically not staying away from technology but if you are off social media apps and other messaging apps, there’s literally nothing to distract you.
So don;t take everything literally. Make smart adjustments that suit your life.
Study Partners
While everyone has their different styles in reading and studying, it has been found that for some people, having study partners or study groups are very helpful and really makes it easier and more fun
Humans are social beings and we learn better and thrive better in groups. While you might be a person who prefers their silence while learning, group sessions at the end of your learning process will just help identify where you are weak and where you should work on.
Let Your Curious Self Take Control
The very fact that we are the most intelligent being on this planet is because of our ability to think.
If it isn’t for curiosity, we would never have any inventions. We are all curious by nature and some of us don’t embrace this part of us.
When you are learning something, actually be curious about what it is and why humans invented it and understand that concepts significance in your life.
I know most of us study through our school and university education just for the sake of marks and getting good jobs, but at the end of the day we all just need to understand the significance of the thing we are learning in our lives and how it affects this world and society. The cost to maintain a mobile app promoting better student habits depends on its complexity, but even a basic version requires ongoing server charges, bug fixes, and content updates to ensure lasting impact.
The moment we get used to this habit of going all in and learning to understand how things work and it’s significance, we become better learners.
Don’t Try To Be a Perfectionist
The main reason students lose focus and get disinterested is because of how they deal with failure and criticism.
It’s not very smart to try and be perfect the first time we try something new. We all like the idea of being superheros but it’s important to remember at we are humans at the end of the day there’s always room for improvement.
There’s a process to everything. It’s okay to fail. Failure is the process. It is the building block for a strong foundation. Trying to be perfect and expecting perfection every single time we attempt something is not very smart.
Give yourself space to fail and learn from the process. Patience is extremely important to succeed in life.
